CHAIRING AND FACILITATION SKILLS ONLINE

This session is designed for councillors who wish to develop the skills of a good chairman.  It is also suitable for committee chairmen and for councillors who are considering whether to put themselves forward for the role of chairman in the future.  Amongst other things the session will cover:

  1. What are the skills and qualities of a good chairman?
  2. What challenges does a chairman face?
  3. How to make meetings effective and ensure they meet their objectives
  4. What makes a successful meeting – important preparation that the chairman can do in advance of a meeting
  5. How to facilitate a meeting: encouraging participation and improving communication
  6. Top Tips for a good facilitator
  7. Creating a positive atmosphere

The session will also cover practical guidance on managing latecomers, handling difficult or disruptive individuals, controlling the meeting and concluding the key points of debate.
