HR Legal Update

There is a raft of new legislation coming into effect in April, which councils will need to amend their employment contracts to accommodate.  This involves new:

  • Flexible working rights, including the right to ask for changed hours, start and finish times, and home working from day one of employment.
  • Holiday payment arrangements.  Councils will be able to pay holiday pay throughout the year as part of the Employee’s hourly rate, rather than paying it when the Employee takes leave.  This may well be popular with small Councils with a Clerk who only does 5 -10 hours per week, as well as for paying casual workers such as seasonal grass cutters.
  • Carer’s entitlement to unpaid time off
  • New Paternity Leave entitlements
