From Oxfordshire County Council Volunteer Co-ordination Officer - Highway Maintenance
Your council and residents can get involved in various ways if you have people who would like to volunteer to help maintain our highways.
FixMyStreet Super User
A Super User is someone who can raise defects direct with OCC’s contractor for highway repairs. Working on unclassified roads with a speed limit of 30mph or less (and some B roads), Super Users can identify and raise orders for potholes, footpaths, kerbs and blocked drains which fall within criteria.
Roadside Cleaning
Over time dirt, moss or algae can build up on road signs making them unsightly or even obscured. We can loan sign cleaning kit to residents, parish and town councils to transform your signs. Please note all work must be carried out from ground level only, from the pavement or roadside verge and on unclassified roads or B roads with a speed limit of 30mph or less.

Cutting back vegetation & weed clearance
This is a great group activity that can be partnered with the sign cleaning, we can even arrange to pick up the waste vegetation once complete. Again, all work must be carried out from ground level only, from the pavement or roadside verge and on unclassified roads or B roads with a speed limit of 30mph or less. Hand tools only to be used.
Snow Wardens
Now is the time to start thinking about snow wardens for your parish/town. We can provide hi vis jackets and have a small number of snow shovels available to borrow. For more information on salt bins, how to purchase new ones and how to make an annual request for an existing bin to be filled please visit
