Lead a community. Shape a place. Make a difference.
Some roles help run organisations. This role helps shape a community.
Bourton-on-the-Water Parish Council is seeking an exceptional individual to become our next Executive Officer (Clerk & Responsible Financial Officer).
This is a rare opportunity to lead a respected local organisation at the heart of one of Gloucestershire's most distinctive communities. Working alongside elected councillors, staff, residents and partner organisations, you will help guide the future of Bourton-on-the-Water whilst overseeing a diverse portfolio of services, community assets and local initiatives.
Bourton-on-the-Water is one of best-known villages in The Cotswolds, but it’s much more than a destination. It is a thriving community with a strong identity, an active civic life and a genuine sense of pride in place. From community facilities and youth provision to environmental initiatives, public spaces and local events, the Parish Council plays a visible and meaningful role in village life.
This is a varied and rewarding leadership role. You will act as the Council’s principal adviser, support effective decision-making, oversee services and projects, lead a small team and ensure the organisation continues to operate effectively and responsibly. No two days are the same.
Whilst experience within local government or the parish sector would be welcomed, we are equally interested in hearing from candidates with transferable experience gained in operations, governance, project delivery, facilities management, charities, membership organisations, housing, education, community organisations or other public-facing environments.
What matters most is your ability to:
- Build trusted relationships.
- Provide sound advice and leadership.
- Manage resources responsibly.
- Navigate complexity with confidence and professionalism.
- Turn ambitions and priorities into practical outcomes.
In return, you will join an active and ambitious council with responsibility for a wide range of community facilities and services, including the George Moore Community Centre, youth provision, play areas, allotments, burial grounds and wellbeing initiatives.
If you are looking for a role that combines leadership, community impact, variety and purpose, we would love to hear from you.
